Ecommerce & retail

Ecommerce agency judged on revenue, not sessions.

Tech Conversion is an ecommerce agency for retail and direct-to-consumer brands in India, the UAE and the USA: we study the store's own data, its competitors and what shoppers search for first, then fix the product pages and the checkout and run the search and paid work that brings buyers to them.

Most stores do not have a traffic problem. They have a friction problem, and it lives on the product page and in the checkout.

Who signs
The shopper decides alone and quickly, often on a phone, often while doing something else.
How long it takes
Minutes for a considered purchase, seconds for an impulse one.
What starts it
A need, an ad, a search, or a recommendation. Rarely a relationship.

Ecommerce & retail, for these businesses

From this sector

The work we can show you

Live sites, not mockups. Where a written case exists it is linked; where we hold a before and after, that is linked instead.

Risks and exposures

What can go wrong here

Where a website or a campaign in this sector creates a liability rather than an enquiry.

  1. Discount copy the price history cannot support

Struck-through reference prices, lowest-ever wording and permanent sales are exactly what the CCPA guidelines on misleading advertisements address. The claim is also screenshotted by customers, so the correction never fully catches up with it.

  2. Listings missing the declarations the pack carries

A product page written as brand copy leaves out net quantity, the price inclusive of taxes, the manufacturer or importer and the consumer care contact. Marketplace listings are usually corrected first, and the brand's own store is forgotten.

  3. Card details touched by the store

A custom card field, a parameter written to a log, or a session recording tool left running over the payment screen pulls the store into a scope it has no way of satisfying and no reason to be in.

  4. Faceted filters generating a near-duplicate catalogue

Every colour, size and sort order becoming its own crawlable address, splitting rankings across thousands of pages nobody wrote. The damage appears months after the filters were added and takes longer than that to undo.

What we do about it

Where an ecommerce marketing agency should start

The plays that are specific to ecommerce & retail, rather than the ones every site gets.

  1. 01

    Start with the numbers

Before changing anything we read the store's own data: where shoppers drop out, which products carry the margin, what competitors charge for delivery and what people search for. The order of the work comes from that.

  2. 02

    Rebuild the product template

It decides most of your revenue. Imagery, variants, stock, delivery promise and objection handling in one pass.

  3. 03

    Put the full cost early

Delivery cost and timing visible before checkout. It reduces abandonment more than any persuasion technique.

  4. 04

    Reduce the checkout

Every field, step and distraction reviewed against whether it earns its place.

  5. 05

Treat category pages as landing pages

Real copy, real filters, real internal linking. This is where ecommerce SEO is won.

  6. 06

    Clean ecommerce tracking

Trustworthy purchase and cart events, because every optimisation decision downstream depends on them.

  7. 07

    Product schema

Price, availability and reviews marked up so results and AI answers describe your products correctly.

The rules you work under

Regulatory framework

The regulators, statutes and standards this sector is subject to, and what each one changes about a website or a campaign. Linked to the source, so you can check us. This is not legal advice.

  • Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020

The store has to display the seller's identity and address, the total price with its breakdown, the country of origin where it applies, the return, refund and exchange policy, and grievance officer contact details. These are page elements with their own place in the template, not a line in the footer.

  • Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011

A pre-packaged product sold online carries on its listing what the pack carries: net quantity, retail sale price inclusive of all taxes, the manufacturer or importer details, consumer care contact and the date of expiry or best before where relevant. Product data needs fields for these, not a paragraph.

  • Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and the CCPA guidelines on misleading advertisements

Governs what a discount, an offer or a struck-through price may claim. A reference price has to be one genuinely charged, a free offer has to be free, disclaimers cannot contradict the main claim, and an endorsement needs due diligence before it is published.

  • PCI DSS, through the payment gateway

Card data belongs with the gateway and nowhere else. The store must not accept card details into its own form, write them to a log, or allow an analytics or session recording tool to capture the payment step. It decides how the checkout is built and which scripts are allowed near it.

  • ASCI influencer guidelines

Paid promotion carries a prominent, upfront disclosure on the platform where it appears. This reaches the brand's own creator programme, affiliate links and reposted customer content, because the store is answerable for claims made on its behalf.

  • Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023

Accounts, addresses, order history and the marketing list are all personal data. Consent to marketing has to be separate from the purchase, the purpose stated where it is collected, and abandoned basket messaging has to rest on something other than the fact the address was typed.

What we measure

What an ecommerce digital marketing agency should measure

We do not publish industry benchmarks we cannot source. What we can say is exactly what gets measured for a client in this sector, and how.

  • Revenue and orders reconciled to the back office

Analytics purchase events compared against the order list in the store admin every month. Where they disagree the tracking is fixed before anything is optimised, because every downstream decision inherits the error.

  • Checkout drop-off by step and by device

Where a session ends, basket, address, delivery or payment, reported for phones and desktops separately, so a fix is aimed at the step that is actually losing people rather than at the page somebody dislikes.

  • Category and product visibility, grouped by category

Impressions and positions read per category rather than as one site total, alongside how much of the catalogue is indexed, so a category losing ground is visible while it is still a category rather than a quarter.

  • Accuracy of the delivery promise

Whether the date shown on the product page matches the date the order actually shipped, sampled from dispatch records, because that promise drives both the conversion and the complaint that follows it.

Questions

Ecommerce agency questions, answered

What ecommerce & retail buyers ask before they commission work.

  • Why is my ecommerce conversion rate low?

The usual causes are delivery cost revealed at checkout, slow product pages on mobile, forced account creation, and product pages that do not answer obvious doubts about size, delivery or returns. Aim for the main content of a product page to load within 2.5 seconds on a mid-range phone on mobile data. Each of these can be fixed without redesigning the store.

  • What is ecommerce SEO, and how is it different?

Ecommerce SEO is work on a store's category and product pages so they rank for the words shoppers use. The difference from ordinary SEO is where the money sits: category pages carry most of the demand and are usually the thinnest pages on the store, while faceted filters quietly create thousands of near-duplicate addresses. A store built without this ranks for its own brand name and little else.

  • What has to appear on an Indian ecommerce product page?

For a pre-packaged product, the listing carries what the pack carries: net quantity, retail sale price inclusive of taxes, manufacturer or importer details, consumer care contact and expiry or best before where it applies. The e-commerce rules add seller identity, the total price with its breakdown, the return and refund policy and grievance officer contact. Build them as structured fields so a new product cannot be published without them.

  • Is search worth doing when most sales come from paid advertising?

Yes, because advertising is rented and category visibility is owned. The two also feed each other: the category pages built to rank are the same pages the advertising should be landing on, and a store whose only entry point is the homepage wastes both. Search also catches the shopper who saw an advertisement, remembered the product and came looking later.

  • What does an ecommerce agency actually do?

Structure, merchandising, checkout and the marketing that feeds them. An ecommerce marketing agency that never touches the store is optimising traffic into a funnel it cannot fix, which is why the two halves usually belong together.

  • How is an ecommerce marketing company different from a general one?

It is judged on margin, not clicks. An ecommerce digital marketing company should be talking about profit after discounts and returns, and an ecommerce performance marketing agency should judge paid spend against contribution margin, because return on ad spend ignores the cost of the goods you just sold.

  • Do we need an ecommerce content marketing agency as well?

Only if your products need explaining or your category needs creating. Content earns its place on considered purchases and rarely on repeat consumables, and any ecommerce marketing firm should tell you which one you are.

  • Do I need an ecommerce agency near me?

Rarely. Almost every store is run remotely, including your competitors'. It matters if someone has to photograph stock or work in the warehouse; otherwise, ecommerce marketing services work the same wherever they are delivered.

  • Choosing an ecommerce marketing agency: India or overseas?

An Indian team usually costs less because delivery costs less, not because the work is smaller. Compare what gets reported rather than the fee: an ecommerce digital marketing agency judged on return on ad spend alone is cheaper and worth less than one judged on margin.

  • Can you guarantee sales or a return on ad spend?

No. Sales depend on your products, prices, stock and competitors, and on platform changes nobody controls. What we promise is the work: research before any change, a fast store, tracking checked against your real orders, and steady improvement from what that data shows.
